M3

Browser Types

Marauder 3 (pre-version 1.3) contains three similar looking Browsers.  The browsers are: Directory Browser, Virtual Browser, and Advanced Browser.

Directory Browser - This browser (initially) displays the contents of a directory.  For example, if you wish to view the contents of a directory such as C:\photos, you would normally use a Directory Browsers.  Directory Browsers let you view the contents of any non-Virtual directory, i.e.: directories named using DOS drives, assigned device names, and media names.

Virtual Browser - This browser is very similar to a Directory Browser and you would normally use it the exact same way, by opening it, entering a directory path, and a button to examine the directory and display icons for images there.  The only different is that unlike a Directory Browser which requires existing directories to work, a Virtual Browser works with non-existing directories.  Virtual directories are directories which do not contain files but pointer to files residing elsewhere.  For example if you have 25 directories containing images from various movies and picture of a certain actor appears in five images in the various directories, you can create a virtual directory for that actor and drag-and-drop those five images into it to create a collection of that actor's pictures without actually copying the files.  Virtual Browsers are simple lists of files stored in .SXV files and may be generated externally by other programs for use within M3.

Advanced Browser - An Advanced Browser is not tied to a certain collection of files.  It is usually used to display results of searches or to perform basic database or file system expressions searches.

Please see the sections describing use of the Directory Browser, Virtual Browser, and Advanced Browser for more information.
