Creating Attributes

To create, rename, or delete attributes in M3, select the Database>Attributes... menu item for the Attributes window.

Once this window is opened, you can add new attributes by pressing the Add button or modify one or more attributes by selecting them and using the buttons shown on the right side of the window.  The steps to manipulate attributes are described below.

Adding attributes

To add an attribute:

  1. Press the Add button.
  2. Enter the name of the attribute you like to add into the entry field.
  3. Press the OK button.  (If this button is disabled, you are using an attribute name which is already in use; please use a different name)
The new attribute will then be created in the database and added to the bottom of the attributes list.

Deleting attributes

To delete on or more attributes:

  1. Select the attribute(s) from the list of attributes shown towards the left side of the window.
  2. Press the Delete button.
  3. Verify your actions by typing in the words M3 requests.
  4. Press the OK button.
The deleted attribute(s) will then be deleted from the database.

Renaming attributes

To rename an attribute:

  1. Select the attribute from the left of attributes shown towards the left side of the window.
  2. Press the Rename button.
  3. Enter the name of the new name for the attribute into the entry field.
  4. Press the OK button.  (If this button is disabled, you are using an attribute name which is already in use; please use a different name)
The attribute you had selected will then be renamed to the new name.

Moving an attribute

Attributes can be maintained in any order you wish.  To move an attribute, select it and use the Top, Up, Down, and Bottom buttons to change its position in relation to the other attributes.

Changing an attribute's default value

Attributes can be either set or cleared by default for each new image added.  You can specify the default value for each image by selecting (set) or clearing (unset) the Selected button.  You can also reset the attribute for all images by pressing the Reset button and proceeding through the verification step.  The default unset value is proper for most cases.

Saving changes

The changes you have made to the attributes are saved when the program exits or a database flush is performed.  You are not required to perform any special actions once you modify the attributes using this window but if you wish, you can select the Database>Flush menu item to ensure that they are saved to the disk immediately.
